The ending runs from E-flat to A major (which is the music will start when I get that part written). In the final measures, the four voices come together on the A below middle C, which is the vanishing point (from a persepective point of view) meant to portray the vastness of the desert where all of Ozymandias' great works have crumbled to dust. As a side note, Fred Himbaugh, a composer of choral music whose works have actually been performed, once asked what characterizes a good bass line. Being a bass singer, this music is my response. It lays the harmonic foundation, has a fair bit of melodic interest, and includes some dramatic leaps. |
