A Skeleton's Minuet is not really a minute as it lacks a trio section, hence the skeleton qualifier. The form is binary but with only one theme, that being the first eight bars, which is repeated . The theme is built from a four note motive (A-G-C-C) that is repeated in bar 2 and modified in bar 3. Bar four is a contrasting motive that leads to a repeat of bars 1-3 but ending an octave higher.
The transition section (bars 9-17) have a similar structure but use a three note motive (A-E-A) that is sequenced down a half step twice. The linking contrasting motive is similar in contour to that of the theme but in steps rather than skips and without the grace notes. The final eight bars are a direct recapitulation of the theme.
A spare accompaniment underlies the melody throughout. under the theme are chord outlines with the progression tonic-tonic-subdominant-dominant repeated and ending in tonic. The transition section modulates to the sub-mediant key (a minor). It consists primarily of block thirds and progresses from tonic through dominant minor seventh and sub-mediant to dominant major. The second half of the transition is extended by one bar in which the E major harmony moves to the tonic which is also c minor's sub-mediant, which in turn leads to the dominant of the home key c minor.
